NEW DELHI: Delhi air is heavily polluted with harmful particles emitted from diesel vehicles, a report reveals and to prevent this Environment and Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) has suggested banning of Diesel vehicles on Delhi roads. The Government has announced the recommendation in the Lok Sabha.
Jayanthi Natarajan, Environment Minister said “In 2012’s report, EPCA informed the transformation of CNG is not at all beneficial since Diesel vehicles are still moving on the roads releasing more harmful smoke elements in comparison to the petrol.”
She also said, “In 2007, the Central Pollution Control Board has performed a detailed study in 6 cities namely Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and Kanpur. This study revealed that a Particulate Matter released from Diesel is responsible for the pollution of air and the data shows that this matter is ranging between 2% to 48% in these cities.”
