Coming in 2014: Audi RS7 revealed

Audi RS7

Audi’s new RS7 uber-swooped saloon has been revealed at the Detroit Motor Show.  The price will be in the region of £84,000 (approx. $134,988) and the car has a release date of the end of 2013.

It’s fair to say the car has some specs and performance which will raise some eyebrows.  Capable of 0-62mph in a Ferrari-challenging 3.9-seconds, it is available in ungoverned form to give a top speed of 189mph (approx. 304km/h).

The RS7 features a twin-turbo 4-litre V8 TFSI petrol engine shared with the recently announced RS6 Avant.  This unit promises 560hp at 5,700 rpm, red lining at 6,700 rpm.  Peak torque of 516 lb ft is available from 1,750 rpm.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

It's the Detroit Motor Show so we couldn't possibly start with anything other than the new Corvette Stingray C7. It's the return of the iconic Stingray name after a 37-year absence and face it, the 450hp 6.2-litre V8 'Vette is as American as mom's apple pie.

The top next generation eco cars from Detroit 2013 ;

Electric cars are nothing new and for most of us would prove wholly impractical – but use electricity to supplement existing forms of propulsion, or find a way to produce it on the move, and all of a sudden electric vehicles seem a whole lot more attractive.

Manufacturers around the world are furtively working to crack this tough nut: here are 10 of the best next-gen eco vehicles to make it from the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

Volvo V40 D2 SE Nav (2012 onwards)

For the first time in a long time, this is a compact Volvo that meets the challenge from BMW and Audi head on.

Model:

Volvo V40 D2 SE Nav

Bodystyle: five-door hatch

Engine: 1.6 D2 turbodiesel

Transmission: six-speed manual

Date of test: July 2012

What is it?

Let's start with what it's not. The last V40 was an estate and so was its successor, the V50, but this isn't - it's

a five-door hatchback and it represents a move away from Volvo's oddly contrary product planning of the

past. The D2 version of the V40 is the entry-level diesel model, equipped with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder

engine that's destined to sell big thanks to sub-100g/km CO2 emissions and fuel consumption to shame your

lawnmower.
